The StaTact workshop for the Central American Statistical Commission (CENTROESTAD), of the Central American Integration System (SICA), was held on October 17 and 19, 2022. The workshop was attended by 25 representatives of national statistical offices of Central American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama, Dominican Republic and Honduras, as well as the technical personnel of CENTROESTAD-SICA.
The general objective of the workshop was to introduce the StaTact tool to the participants and to develop various measurement problems at the regional level that were of interest to the participants. The measurement problems developed in the workshop were the following:
- School dropout at a higher level in Central America
- Adolescent pregnancy in Central America
- Measurement of people displaced by disasters:
- Number of people migrating by caravans in Central America
77 participants (13 respondents) found the StaTact tool to be a useful tool for addressing data problems using relevant data sources and 100% as a relevant tool to address the lack of data planning.
CENTROESTAD is interested in continuing to collaborate with UNITAR to be able to use the StaTact tool to solve applied measurement problems. Participants were also invited to have bilateral meetings with UNITAR in order to hold StaTact workshops for the ONEs of each country and resolve the specific needs of each country.
